Scope and content
Series consists of central registry files containing a wide variety of records which document social policy development in the early 1980's. There are files related to the activities of the Social Development Deputies and the Deputy Minister's Committee meetings. Other material includes: discussions of funding for the Canada Council; environmental conservation; funding fees and strategic planning for Parks Canada; social research; immunization and communicable disease control programs; issues relating to natives such as the economic development of native bands or reserves, native self government; the development and impact of Canadian criminal law and the activities of the Solicitor General's office; as well as interaction between the federal government and the private sector on social policy matters. The types of records found within these files include briefing notes to the minister and other senior officials, correspondence, reports, agendas, meeting minutes, news clippings, working notes, copies of statutes, press releases, and index cards for access. These central registry files also contain cabinet documents, and policy analyses and strategic reports intended to assist senior government officials determine the direction and type of social policy implemented by the Canadian federal government. The central registry files are arranged according to a block numeric file classification system, with administrative records in blocks 100-999 and operational records in blocks 1000 to 5249.
