Scope and content
The series consists of a daily diary kept between 21 February and 10 July by Johnston, recording his preparations for his trip to the Eldorado mine at Port Radium on Great Bear Lake, North West Territories, his journey there, his four month stay at the mine, and his trip to Coppermine on the Coronation Gulf and to an Inuit sealing camp. The diary contains approximately 140 pages of entries, partly in pencil, partly in pen. Included is a page of ideas for paintings at the back and some loose pages on which Johnston recorded Inuit words and their English translations.
