Series includes clippings of photos of animals and landscapes possibly used for reference purposes when Johnston was painting, as well as clippings of some reproductions of other artists' work. Also included are a copy of "The Studio" 1900; a 1907 edition of Bliss Carman's "Vagabondia", inscribed by Johnston to Florence 1910; an Art Gallery of Toronto catalogue for an exhibition of contemporary American artists 1921; a catalogue from the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy 1922; Arts and Letters Club programme and broadside for two Artists Jamborees 1925 (exhibiting the work of Johnston, Frank Carmichael, A.J. Casson, Lawren Harris, J.E.H. MacDonald, et al); programme for a performance of "The Battle of the Books" by Margaret Ray under the auspices of J.M. Dent and Sons at Aldine House 1927; Walker Art Galleries catalogue signed by Johnston 1927; Ontario College of Art syllabus 1928; programme for the Canadian Literature Club of Toronto's "Royal Doulton: a comedy of prejudices" by J.E. Middleton at Hart House 1930; menu for an E.J. Pratt dinner at St. Martin's House 1930; booklet "Arthur Heming: recorder of the north" by William G. Colgate 1933; publicity material for Tondakea Lodge, Johnston's lodge at Balm Beach, Georgian Bay [1930s]; and Midland Summer School prospectus 1938. Also included are two unattributed essays, one in typescript and one in manuscript, on dynamic symmetry.
