Scope and content
Series consists of memoranda and correspondence going through Mr. Sharp's office during the years 1974 to 1975, and cover the complete range of topics before the Secretary of State. Both incoming and outgoing correspondence is here; arranged chronologically for the incoming and by responsible division for the outgoing.
Also included is a document signed by Brian Mulroney, Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin for the 1993 Vancouver Summit from the office of the Deputy Minister .

Biography / Administrative history
The office of Secretary of State for External Affairs was created in 1912. Until 1948 this position was, by law, held by the Prime Minister. The Honourable Mitchell Sharp was Secretary of State for External Affairs from 1968 to 1974 followed by the Honourable Allan MacEachen. By 1993 the office was known as the office of the Minister of External Affairs and the Honourable Barbara McDougall held this position under then Prime Minister the Honorable Brian Mulroney.
