Scope and content
Series consists of files relating to the amendment of the Inspections Act (1882). These records include correspondence, memoranda and printed reports from the Department of Inland Revenue. These records were formerly described as miscellaneous papers. In much of the material transferred to the National Archives from the Department of Finance no pre-archival arrangement was discernable and, therefore, in arranging the records many arbitrary decisions had to be made. Wherever possible the records have been arranged according to the type of record and the office which created them. However, in many instances it has been considered desirable to revert to an arrangement under subject headings because of the diversified nature and small volume of some types of records.
