Scope and content
This subseries is comprised of prints 11 x 14 inches and smaller selected from the Individual Portrait Sittings by Yousuf Karsh. There are an average of 7-8 prints of each subject for the material acquired in 1987, each using different lighting or printing techniques. The prints acquired in 1997 in this series are all glossies, with 15 to 20 poses per sitting. The prints are arranged alphabetically, not by negative number. Karsh's signature appears below the image or on the verso. Most of the images are formal portraits, however there are some informal portraits, as well as some images of the environment of the person as studies for the final portrait. There is also a set of special prints, made up of non-portrait studies, from the early period in his career.
