Scope and content

Series consist of selected central registry files from various Insurance Companies under the control of the Department of Insurance. The records contain general correspondence with the All Canada Insurance Federation and records regarding income tax on annuity payments and different insurance companies which dealt with the Department. There are also registration files, claim files and examination and general practice files. Volume 23 contains a procedure manual of the Department of Insurance starting in 1918. Volumes 80 and 81 contain files relating to various subjects such as the departmental E.D.P. Program, the Halifax Relief Commission, the Insurance Committee on the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Canadian legislation concerning nuclear hazards.
