Biography / Administrative history
In 1945, the Dominion Statistician of Canada, re-organized the position of Assistant Chief Statistician to create two new positions - Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Economist. John Thornton Marshall was appointed to the position of Chief Administrative Officer and assigned responsibility for personnel, repairs and maintenance, supplies, printing, mechanical equipment and accounting. Previous to this appointment, Marshall had served as the Director of the Vital Statistics Branch. In 1947, the title of Marshall's position was changed to `Assistant Dominion Statistician - Administration'.
