File consists of a personal album of Lady Dufferin (nee Hariot Rowan Hamilton, 1843-1936) which covers the period when her husband, Lord Dufferin, was Governor General of Canada (1872-1878). It offers insights into life at Rideau Hall and Canadian Victorian Society. Records of official functions are interspersed with personal activities such as winter sports, parties, balls and theatricals of genteel upper-class life. Views include: Rideau Hall, interior, exterior and grounds; Victoria, B.C.; Niagara Falls, Fort William, Ont.; Quebec City, Montreal Que.; Winnipeg, Fort Garry, Man. Subjects include: West Coast Indian peoples and culture, winter sports - tobogganing, skating, sliding, curling, drama at Rideau Hall, Fancy Dress Ball of 1876. Photographs are by Topley, Notman and Frederick Dally, as well as other photographers.
