Scope and content

Album contains views of Montreal recording the city's historical development. Copies of lithographs and sketches of Montreal, its churches and prominent buildings dating from the 17th century are followed by photographs depicting 19th century Montreal and other Canadian views. Views include: Victoria Bridge, Bousecour Market, urban scenes and winter scenes, St. John's Nfld. Subjects include: churches, prominent buildings and monuments. Events include: Jubilee Parade, June 23, 1897, the S.S. Islander departing from Victoria, B.C. for the Klondike, 1897, Flood of Montreal, April 1886. Portriats include: group portrait including the Prince of Wales with Sir Edmond Head and others, 1860; group portrait including Prince Arthur in uniform at time of Fenian Raids in 1870 at Huntington. Photographs by J.G. Parks, Notman, James Inglis, S.H. Parsons.
