Scope and content
This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accessions. Sub-series consists of fourteen reels of computer-output microfilm (COM) of an alphabetical index to names in an "inactive" portion of the Non-Immigrant Data System (NIDS) for the period 1972-1976. NIDS, an early version of the present VIDS (Visitor Data System), is a departmental electronic data system for the tracking of temporary visitors to Canada, including tourists, temporary workers, and students. The information input into this version of the system is said to have been derived from forms IMM 1097, 1102, and 1103. The index includes surname, given names, and several columns of identifying information. Two versions of the index are included. One (reels T-8060 to T-8065) covers names listed in NIDS in the period 1972-1975, and the other (reels T-8066 to T-8073) covers names in NIDS in the period 1972-1976.
