Scope and content
This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accessions. Sub-series consists of immigration case files created and/or maintained by the New Westminster Canada Immigration Centre. These case files from a local CIC are described by the department as having both "routine administrative value" or having "important administrative, legal value and/or decisions outstanding" as in the case of deportations. However, in neither the size of the files nor in the numbering or arrangement scheme of the records is there any apparent such distinction. These files contain virtually no original correspondence except letters of reference supporting the prospective landed immigrant or visa seeker. Most files contain carbon copies of the IMM-1000 form (Canadian Immigration Record and Visa) and IMM-1104 form (Assessment Record), and medical forms, sponsorships, financial assistance, etc. Almost all these forms are for computer input.

Biography / Administrative history
The New Westminster Canada Immigration Centre (CIC) was a responsibility centre and office of record for the acceptance of immigrants and control of immigration irregularities at the field office level. The New Westminster CIC was a primary contact in British Columbia for new immigrants and for persons wishing to sponsor the immigration of relatives abroad. As was the case with other CICs located in all Canadian cities and larger towns, the New Westminster CIC also undertook responsibilities such as the investigation of immigration irregularities and representing the department at formal inquiry hearings involving refused claims, deportations, and exclusions.
