Biography / Administrative history

As a means of meeting its objectives in the area of the settlement and adaptation of immigrants the Settlement Branch of the Department of Manpower and Immigration gave grants to voluntary agencies providing settlement assistance to immigrants and conducting research on adjustment problems. The research grants system was succeeded by the Purchase of Service and Immigration Settlement and Adaptation Programs in 1976.
