Biography / Administrative history
The 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade was part of the 1st Canadian Division and was formed from Battalions recruited in Ontario. The brigade included the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions and was commanded successively by Brigadier-Generals M.S. Mercer (September 1914 to November 1915), G.B. Hughes (November 1915 to February 1917), W.A. Griesbach (February 1917 to Febraury 1919), and G.E. McCuaig (February 1919 to April 1919). The 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade was demobilized in April 1919.
