Scope and content
Series consists of historical records Canadian Railway Troops (CRT) in France which were sent periodically to the Canadian Record Office and the Canadian War Records Office for safekeeping. The records are arranged by subject within each unit. These battalions were not part of the Canadian Corps but came under the command of Brigadier J.W. Stewart, a Canadian who was Director General Transportation (Construction) at British GHQ. Canadian railway units constructed and maintained all gauges of railways for the five British Army areas in France and Belgium.
