Scope and content
Sub-series consists of weekly returns of the Embodied Militia. The Embodied Militia was called out to defend the province against possible attacks from the United States. The Adjutant General in his role as intermediary between the Governor and the militia officers was responsible for ensuring that the militia played its part in such times of unrest and for ensuring that returns were produced regularly. The returns are arranged by the localities in which units were stationed. The returns indicate the number of men on parade, the number absent, names of the officers, location or distribution of companies. Some returns also include the number, type and condition of arms, number of uniforms on hand, numbers of deserters, prisoners and sick men.
