Scope and content

Sub-series consists of daily states of the Incorporated Militia at Toronto, December 1837 to July 1838, November 1838 to June 1839. These states or returns indicate the strength and names of the infantry, cavalry and artillery units from the militia which formed the Toronto Garrison. The Adjutant General in his role as intermediary between the Governor and the militia officers was responsible for ensuring that the militia played its part in such times of unrest and for ensuring that returns were produced regularly.
