Scope and content
Collection consists of several documentaries made in the 1920s and 1930s focusing on harvests and the cultivation of agricultural crops, fruits in the Niagara belt, sisal in the Yucatan Peninsula and oranges in California. The use of modern agricultural machinery is stressed in Romance of the reaper and the dramatized documentary Dominion builders. Photographic material consists of: scenes showing farming, homes, and the growth of towns on the Prairies, 1900-1910; early agricultural equipment including steam and gas tractors, threshing machines, haying equipment, seed drills, harvesters, and mowing machines; pioneer farming activities including clearing of land, sodding bees, ploughing of fields, sowing crops, and threshing; views of sod houses and homesteads; cities and towns throughout Saskatchewan; facilities of Advance-Rumely Threshing Co., LaPorte, Indiana ca. 1911; steamers on the South Saskatchewan River; railroad construction and locomotives; early cars; Red River cart, buggies, carriages, and covered wagons displayed at Pion-Era Exhibition, Saskatoon, Saskachewan, 1957; Western Development Museum and its collections; Regina cyclone, 1912; a homestead on the prairies; captains of Saskatoon Industrial League's fundraising drive; delegates to Co-operative Commonwealth Federation convention, 1960, including the Hon. Tommy Douglas.

The Saskchewan Western Development Museum is a social and economic history museum for the Province of Saskachewan. The museum has four branches in the cities of North Battleford, Moose Jaw, Yorkton asd Saskatoon. It's headquarters and Curatorial Centre is located in Saskatoon.
