Biography / Administrative history
The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) was initially formed by the cable industry in 1988 as an experimental service whose primary mandate was to carry coverage from the House of Commons. The service was originally named the Cable Parliamentary Channel. On October 1 1996 a new image and name was launched. Renamed the Cable Public Affairs Channel (la Chaîne d'affaires publiques par câble), the service broadened its scope to broadcast more public affairs programming in addition to live parliamentary debates.
