Scope and content

Series consists of photographs depeicting events, activites, family members, and friends of Hazen Sise, [ca. 1850]-1973. Series contains photographs of views of the Ottawa-Hull area including: the Archbishop's Palace, Lisgar Collegiate, and Billings House, Ottawa, Notre Dame Church, Hull; and Rideau Street Convent Demonstration, Ottawa, 1972; locations and architecture in Europe: Italy, Poland, Chambord, Versailles, Oxford, Madrid, Brussels, London, Chatres, and Blois; slides of the Charlottetown Cornerstone Ceremony, 1966; Quebec City; Ile d'Orlieans; Expo 67; Montreal (Bonsecours); photos of the Spanish Civil War; Sise Monument; Sise family; Sise viewing Holy Roller Chapel, Gatineau, Que.; portraits of Philip F. Sise, 148th Battalion band and baseball team, orderly room staff, Vincent Massey, Francis Sise, Charles Fleetford Sise, and members of the Sise and Porteous families. Photos by Karsh, Hazen Sise, Dr. Mary Burns, Rice, Disdéfi, William Notman, William and James Notman, Sheldon & Davis, Jones, Notman & Sandham, James Inglis, R.D. Ewing, G.G. Petronille, Ile d'Orleans, Que.; members of the Porteous family; photos of the UNESCO building in Paris; London Philharmonic Orchestra; photos of Hazen Sise, his family and ancestors (including group photo of members of the Sise family, ca. 1880; photos of Charles Fleetford Sise, Montreal, Que., taken ca. 1890-1915.); some photos by Sidney Carter. Additionally, the series contains photos of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (Siberia), Bladivostok; Hazen Sise, Norman Bethune and Henning Sorenson serving in the Spanish Civil War; Nancy Sise and friends.
