Scope and content

Series consists of plans created by the Provincial Secretary and Secretary of State in their capacity as Registrar. The series contains approximately 9,680 plans in 59 bound volumes, showing parcels of land referred to in the registers (RG68, Volumes 1-884 and 944-947) which contain copies of commissions, letters patent, proclamations, land grants, miscellaneous appointments, charters of incorporation and other instruments issued under the Great Seal of Canada. From 1763 to 1912, the plans were filed with the supporting documentation and these remain in the Registers. The registers are available on microfilm but the plan books have not been filmed. Plan books 12-13 and 52-58 contain indexes which give the date, the subject and other information for each plan. The plans were originally held in 59 bound books that were unbound for conservation purposes when transferred to the National Map Collection. Access to the survey plans is through indexes and registers. Contents lists for books 12-13 (June 1922 - Jan 1924) and 52-58 (Sept. 1953 - Nov. 1961) are available on the accession file.
