Scope and content
Series consists of a sketchbook of 84 folios of drawings and notes made by Sir James Alexander from January to September, 1843, while he was serving with the 14th Reg't of Foot in London, Ontario. The series also contains a print entitled "London, Canada West" by Sir. James Alexander from an original watercolour by James Hamilton (1810-1896). Accompanying the print is a detailed key of the area, buildings and what now stands on the ground. In addition, the series includes the following drawings and prints: page from a sketchbook entitled "Drum of a Column at Ephesus", with bottom entitled "Perilous adventure with EMA, Lake Ontario"; page from a sketchbook entitled "In a cave after a night in the Trenches, Sevastopol"; page from a sketchbook entitled, on recto, top "Llwyn Derw, Home of Horman Fisher,"on bottom "The Mumbles, Swansea, and on verso "Invitation to the Red Lions Clubbe". There is also a poem by McKay eulogizing Alexander entitled "The Tomb of Sir James Alexander at Logie"; and an obituary portrait of General Sir James E. Alexander, C.B. that appeared in the The Graphic, May 9, 1885.
