Scope and content

The fonds consists of three sous-fonds: the Samuel Rollin Hesson sous-fonds, the Charles Ashton Hesson sous-fonds and the Hesson family sous-fonds. The fonds contains archival records that document the personal, financial, political, business and legal activities of Samuel Rollin Hesson, of Stratford, Ontario; the personal, financial, business, legal and research activities of his son, Charles Ashton Hesson, of St. Catharines, Ontario; and the personal and financial activities of the Hesson family of Stratford, Ontario. The fonds consists of textual documents, photographs, view cards in a presentation folder, an encased funerary medal for Sir John A. Macdonald, a silhouette portrait of Charles Ashton Hesson (1860-1936), cartographic documents, philatelic records, a newspaper and various other publications.

Charles Ashton Hesson, son of Samuel Rollin Hesson, was a collector in the Internal Revenue Department in St. Catharines, Ontario. A complete biographical notice is provided in the description of the Charles Ashton Hesson sous-fonds.
