The sous-fonds consists of records which could not be clearly identified as belonging to either Samuel Rollin Hesson or Charles Ashton Hesson, as well as records created by other members of the Hesson family. The files include family scrapbooks, (Vols. 15-16); incoming-outgoing correspondence, (Vol. 16-17); the accounts of Frederick Henry Hesson, (Vol. 16); family memorabilia, (Vol. 16-17); calling cards, (Vol. 17); physical exercise instruction papers, (Vol. 16); and newspaper clippings, (Vol. 16-17).

Biography / Administrative history

The Hesson family of Stratford, Ontario, consisted of Samuel Rollin Hesson, his wife Margaret Jane Hesson née Polley, and their five children: Flora T. Symons, Frederick Henry Hesson, Charles Ashton Hesson, Fannie G. Hesson and Bella Morgan. Samuel Rollin Hesson developed strong professional relationships with his children and their spouses. His son-in-law, Harry Symons, was a lawyer who often provided legal counsel for Hesson in their common business interests; Hesson's elder son Frederick Henry Hesson was, for a time, land agent in Brandon, Manitoba, where Hesson owned land; his younger son, Charles Ashton Hesson was a collector in the Inland Revenue Department in St. Catharines, Ontario; and his son-in-law, Greville Morgan, was a stockbroker in Toronto, Ontario, where he traded commodities for Hesson.
