Scope and content
The fonds consists of records pertaining to Jim Vallance's musical career and provides information on a number of personalities in the artistic field as well as various music groups. It includes, among other items, the following: address books; personal and business correspondence; contracts and minutes concerning ASCAP, SOCAN and ALMO-IRVING; minutes and architectural drawings concerning the Armoury studio; financial records; royalty statements; notes; contracts and promotional material for Glass Tiger and Bryan Adams; songs by Jim Vallance (lyrics, scores and collections); performance posters and other promotional material; press clippings; photographs of Jim Vallance and other artists; and sound recordings of a lecture and interviews with Jim Vallance, of songs written or co-written by Jim Vallance (Bryan Adams, Alice Cooper, Burton Cummings, Aerosmith, Beggars & Thieves, etc.) and of compositions by Vallance.

Biography / Administrative history
Writer-composer, drummer and record producer born in Chilliwack, B.C., studied piano with Frances James at the University of British Columbia (1970-71) and cello with Hans Siegrist (1974-76). In the mid-1970s, Vallance began a career in the popular music field, becoming a drummer for the rock groups Sunshyne and Prism. In 1978, he began his collaboration with writer-composer-performer Bryan Adams, creating big hits such as Cuts Like a Knife, Hearts on Fire, Heat of the Night and Somebody. He and Bryan Adams also composed songs recorded by a number of other artists and groups such as Joe Cocker, Neil Diamond, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Loverboy and Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). As a well-known song-writer and producer, Vallance has also worked with, among others, David Foster, Charles Goodrum, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and Scorpions. In 1986 and 1987, he won Juno Awards for Composer of the Year.
