This accession consists of Chinese case files created and maintained at Immigration Headquarters in Ottawa, in the XY1-series. Each file generally contains generic forms (such as applications for permanent residence), correspondence about the particulars of the application, supporting documentation such as family trees, personal identification, reference letters, travel details and occasionally additional information (such as newspaper clippings) providing evidence about the circumstances of the case. Many of the cases contain correspondence from the Minister of Employment and Immigration, typical of cases maintained in the headquarters registry. While most of these cases are quite routine, some of the more substantial files contain legal representations, police reports and court records, depending on the applicants' situation.
