Additional information

Records in this accession consist of case files pertaining to claims for refugee status, applications for permanent residence and deportations, created and maintained at immigration headquarters in the HQ1, HQ2, HQ5 and HQ8 series. The type of documentation on each file varies depending on the nature of the case and the time frame in which it was created. Generally, each case contains standard application forms and personal information about the individual involved, as well as supporting documentation about their case (such as photocopies of passports and letters of reference). The refugee case files often contain additional information about their country-of-origin situations. Many cases contain transcripts of inquiries held before the Immigration Appeal Board or the Refugee Status Advisory Committee. Others contain documentation from the Federal Court of Canada and in the case of deportation cases, evidence of the reason for this action.
