This accession consists of immigration case files from the department's XY series, which was created to document the arrival of Chinese immigrants to Canada. The files were created by the Toronto Enforcement Unit in response to sponsorship and immigrant assistance issues. Each case file typically contains the following documentation: applications for permanent residence or refugee status, records of landing, permits to come into and remain in Canada and in some instances, the guarantor's financial status report. Relevant documentation pertaining to the enforcement of these cases (such as correspondence from immigration officials) is also included.
