This accession consists of Chinese immigration case files created and/or maintained at the Mississauga Canada Immigration Centre as part of the XY series, which was maintained by the department as a separate case file series to document Chinese immigration to Canada until the late 1970s. The cases pertain to the sponsorship of relatives from abroad by Canadian citizens or permanent residents and applications for permanent residence according to designated classes. Each file typically contains records of the application, details about the sponsorship including a report on the guarantor's financial status, the permit to enter, record of landing and other supporting documentation.
