Scope and content

The series includes incoming and copies of outgoing correspondence, memoranda, reports, notes, handbooks, pamphlets, newsletters, minutes, speeches, press releases, newspapers, clippings, government publications, financial reports, photographs and a draft thesis. The series covers the years when Shoyama worked for the Economic and Advisory Planning Board of the Saskatchewan government, from 1946 until his resignation in June 1964. The files contain information on both provincial and federal conventions and activities of the C.C.F. and the N.D.P. parties from the 1930's to the 1960s. There are files which document the medical care crisis in Saskatchewan in 1961-1962. Shoyama's copy of the minute book of the Economic and Advisory Planning Board records the doings of the board in 1961-1962. The series also contains information on the activities of Tommy Douglas at the time of the June 1962 federal election and in the fall of 1962. N.D.P. committee discussion papers in the mid-1960s record the development of party policy in its early years A draft copy of Albert Wesley Johnson's 1963 Harvard thesis on the Saskatchewan government from 1944-1961 is also included in the series.
