Textual records The finding aid consists of a spreadsheet which lists the name, file number and box location of each record. The finding aid was modified in May 2006 when a file was returned to Citizenship and Immigration Canada when it was realized that it's retention period had not yet expired. Records in this accession consist of case files pertaining to refugee claims, applications for permanent residence, sponsorship applications as well as enforcement records documenting deportations and detentions created and maintained at immigration headquarters in the HQ6 and HQ8 series. The type of documentation on each file varies depending on the nature of the case and the time frame in which it was created. Generally, each case contains standard application forms and personal information about the individual involved, as well as supporting documentation about their case (such as photocopies of passports and letters of reference). The refugee case files often contain additional information about their country-of-origin situations. Many cases contain transcripts of inquiries held before the Immigration Appeal Board, Immigration and Refugee Board or the Refugee Status Advisory Committee. Others contain documentation from the Federal Court of Canada and in the case of deportation cases, evidence of the reason for this action.
