Verso bears pencil inscription, u.c.: William Molson Macpherson Collection 1933
Vateau [sic] is Louis-Joseph Watteau (1731-1798) (dit Watteau de Lille) an artist and engraver who executed genre and military scenes, and died in Lille. Juste Chevillet (1729-1790) is an artist and engraver who was a pupil of J.G. Wille and is known to have reproduced works by Watteau de Lille. [Bénézit, E.
