Scope and content

Head and shoulders portrait of a woman executed in a format similar to 1989-514-113X, which is signed by Sawyer. It is one of five portraits in the collection by or attributed to Sawyer. The woman bears a resemblance to the sitter in 1989-514-51X, a portrait of Lady Macpherson by Sawyer, dated 1860. If this is Lady Macpherson, she is slightly older -- the work would date later.
If the portrait is one of several executed during the 1859/60 sittings, it is probably a relative of Lady Macpherson's.
