Scope and content

Scene showing a large Hudson's Bay Company freight canoe passing a waterfall, presumably on the French River. The passengers in the canoe may be the artist and her husband, Edward Hopkins, secretary to the Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company.

Custodial history
This painting, as well as three others, were acquired by Anderson Galleries, New York, from the estate of Frances Anne Hopkins; thereafter they were purchased by Canadian publisher Robert Brook of Glasgow, Brook & Co., and then sold to the Public Archives for the same price for which Mr. Brook had purchased them.
