Additional information

This formal portrait of Lieutenant-General Montcalm, Commander of the French troops in North America during the Seven Years War, was copied from an original belonging to the Montcalm family. Many such copies were produced during the 19th century, capitalizing on a public appetite for images of the main players in the famous siege, and fall, of Québec City (1759).
