Scope and content

The etching is a representation of one side of a medal that was struck in 1784 by the Royal Society in honour of Captain Cook. The other side of the medal showed an allegory of Great Britain. It is this side that illustrates the title page of the second volume of the second edition of A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean.
