Scope and content

Miss Ritchie is dressed as a fairy for a fancy dress ball hosted by Lord and Lady Dufferin on February 23, 1876. On February 24, 1876, The Ottawa Daily Citizen described her costume as follows: "White silk trimmed with silver fringe, overskirt of white tulle head-dress, blue tulle veil, silver band butterfly"

Although the Earl of Dufferin's Grand Fancy Ball took place on February 23, 1876, photographs of costumed individuals and groups were taken after the event itself. While the majority were taken in February and March, some of the guests were also photographed in April.
