Additional information
In 1878 photographer William Notman was asked to send an image to the world's fair in Paris. What better way to showcase the young nation than a composite photograph of notable Canadians enjoying the winter sport of curling? But how did Notman get all these politicians and prominent businessmen together? He took 122 separate photographs in his studio and added them to a painted background of Montreal to create this fictional scene.
