Scope and content

The image depicts the royal couple along with dignitaries and local officials giving addresses on a pavillion built on Parliament Hill. After the royal couple had reached the pavilion, the Mayor read the civic address which was followed by the presentation of addresses from the city of Hull, the towns of Almonte, Arnprior, P.Q., Brockville, Cornwall, Pembroke, Perth and Renfew; the Board of Trade, the St. Andrew's Society, the St. George's Society, the St. Jean Baptiste Society, the St. Patrick Literacy and Scientific Association, the Band of Mercy Union, the Veterans' Assocations of 1866 and 1870, all of Ottawa; the Canadians of Massachusetts, the Canadian Society of New York, and the Ojibway Indians. After the addresses had been handed in, the Duke addressed the crowd.
