Scope and content

At Mundare, in the province of Alberta, a town of some 800 people many of whom are of Ukrainian origin, a museum has been established to house a priceless collection of Ukrainian relics collected over half a century by a devoted and determined priest of the Basilian order, Father Josephat Jean. There are more than 10,000 pieces in the museum, each one carefully documented, and many contributed by the enthusiastic townspeople. In the collection is an ancient map of the Ukraine dated 1648, a 13th century painting of St. Nicholas, and the first passport to Canada ever issued to a Ukrainian. There are some 10,000 pieces in the small museum.
