Biography / Administrative history
Dr. Alexander E. MacDonald, ophthalmologist, graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1916 and specialized in ophthalmology. The author of over fifty papers which have appeared in international, American and Canadian ophthalmological journals, he has also maintained executive positions in the International, American, and Canadian Ophthalmological Societies. During the mid-1940s, he was instrumental in establishing certificates of specialization in ophthalmology under the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and has been the ophthalmological consultant for the Toronto General Hospital and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
