Scope and content

Series consists of both single-sheet and loose prints originally published in various of the official narrative reports of the expeditions on which Sir George Back served in the Arctic, including Sir John Franklin's first overland expedition to the Arctic in 1819-1822, Franklin's second overland expedition to the Arctic in 1825-1826, and George Back's overland expedition to the Arctic in 1833-1835 to discover the fate of Sir John Ross, and to explore the coast of the Arctic Ocean. Also included are descriptions of prints from which reproduction copies have been made, which arte still in the actual printed volumes. Included are geographical locations, activities relating to the daily life of the expeditions, flora and fauna, portraits, and events. Works are by George Back.
