Scope and content

Series comprises primarily pencil sketches as roughs for illustrations for a proposed book entitled "The Canadian Book" - a project which was not realized. Kay Ambrose, costume designer and artistic advisor for the National Ballet of Canada from 1952 to 1961, was frequently sent on scouting trips ahead of the Ballet troupe in order to plan routes and find venues. The majority of the humourous drawings feature cowboys at the Calgary Stampede. Additional ones demonstrate similar moves between hockey players and ballerinas. The textual records comprise drafts of chapters for the proposed book project.
