Includes a decorative cartouche showing two allegorical figures one of whom represents cold, winter or Arctic. Cherubic faces are inset in a clould and are exhaling Arctic winds, The heraldic crest of the Blaeu family; two foxes, a bear or wolf, and two Arcitc hunters frame the scale.
On verso: 2 pages of text titled " Landen onder de Noord - Pool". Printed page number "4" appears in top right corner. The printers mark is "C" printed under the " alfoo" in last line of text. The catchword is "13 cap". Left hand page has no page number and the last line of text is "foeckende, befeylt heeft". This information in Kersahw dates the map as the first state, Dutch edition of 1642 map.
