Scope and content

This sub-sub series consists of files on members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The files were opened after the London Headquarters of Militia and Defence became the independent Ministry of the Overseas Military Forces of Canada (OMFC) in October 1916. The files contain documents relating to the service of individual soldiers and nursing sisters. There is also the occasional file for employees of the OMFC and for civilians with whom the ministry had contact. File were only opened for those service personnel who were brought to the attention of the OMFC. There are approximately 7500 files in the series.

All records in this file series have a file number beginning with '10' followed by the first letter of the person's last name. In addition, each individual was assigned a file number sequentially depending on when their file was opened. An example being 10-B-199 for Captain W.A. Bishop.
