Scope and content

This series contains 964 photographs of urban and rural scenes across Canada. Many of these photographs were taken in Ottawa and its surrounding area, including exterior and interior views of the Parliament buildings (both before and during the fire of 1916). This series includes landscape photographs taken in British Columbia and Alberta by another photographer, Charles Horetzky (1840-1900). Also included are a few studio portraits of Aboriginal subjects, some hunting photographs featuring members of the Buckskin Club, and a composite image from Lady Dufferin's personal album.
