These records are Chinese case files accumulated (and generally speaking also created) in the Vancouver Regional Office of the Immigration Branch. In content and format they resemble Chinese case files of other RG 76 accessions originally held at Immigration headquarters in Ottawa, except that the subjects of the case files are largely residents of British Columbia. Many of the files were used in status adjustment claims procedures. Some files date back to the original Department of the Interior registry system, but all have been renumbered in the "CH" series. Some files bear the prefix PCH, PDCH, or 5133-CH; others are listed by the Department as having prefix XY instead of CH, but the files are not so labelled.

Each file has clipped to the front file jacket a package of cards indexing major names found in the files according to the same system used in RG 76, accession 85-86/051 (Romanized card index). These are, however, unique index entries not included in that index.
