This accession consists of records from two distinct activities within the "DX" Dormant Executive Series. The first type of files, found in boxes numbers 1 to 51 are the registry files produced by the Energy Research and Development Office. The office was established to develop, implement and co-ordinate a program of federal energy research and development. Various topics are covered including solar wind and biomass generated power, conservation, federal funding, municipalities and industries activities.

The second component of this accession contains the Energy, Mines and Resources of Canada files relating to an inter-departmental committee entitled the Advisory Committee on Northern Development. The registry files, found in boxes 52 to 62, hold correspondence, memos, minutes, agenda, teletypes, briefing notes and other types of material. Although these are largely EMR copies of committee material. There are some originals documents and marginalia on the copies.
