Additional information
The records in this accession were created and accumulated by Michelle Falardeau-Ramsay, who was the chairperson of the Immigration Appeal Board from 1983 until 1988. Most of the records were created during the late 1980s, before the Immigration Appeal Board's successor, the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), was established. The IRB brought together the functions that were part of the Immigration Appeal Board and Adjudication and refugee determination functions that were once overseen by the Refugee Status Advisory Committee, which was part of the Department of Employment and Immigration. Most of the records within this accession relate to the refugee backlog issues that arose during this period, and which prompted the creation of the IRB.
The records consist of briefing notes to the Senate and Parliament from the IAB, discussion papers, refugee statistics, memoranda to cabinet, internal memoranda relating to refugee determination issues, memoranda to ministers, amendments to the Immigration Act, recommendations from the Chair, internal correspondence and correspondence from Employment and Immigration to the IAB, .
