Scope and content

Sous-fonds consists of papers from the post in Kuala Lumpur. The Canadian government in 1964 agreed to provide assistance to the Malaysian military. This assistance took the form of a study of the capabilities and needs of the Malaysian Armed Forces. These papers from the post in Kuala Lumpur reflect some of questions addressed by the study, as well as Canada's continuing interest.

Biography / Administrative history

Canada and Malaya (as it was then called) began formal diplomatic relations on 31 August 1957. A High Commission was established in Malaya on 29 March 1958. On 16 September 1963 Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo(Sabah) joined to form the federation of Malaysia. Canadian diplomatic recognition of Malaysia was given on 16 September 1963. A High Commission to Malaysia was established in Kuala Lumpur in 1963. RG25 General Inventory
